The Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has assured the media of ensuring their safety at the impending Akwatia by-election.
He said he would do so if it had to take him to personally do that.
The IGP gave the assurance when he met with the leadership of the GJA in Accra on Tuesday.

“I want to assure you that the police will deal Decisively with them to make sure people and the media will feel safe.
Even if it takes me alone to protect you I will do so”, COP Yohuno emphasized.
He also expressed worry over the attack of EIB Reporter by the Police Officer during the Ablekuma North re-run adding that “the incident of our snr police officer spoilt our day”.
“I quickly met POMAB members and decided to withdraw him and interdict him”, the IGP revealed.
“The officer is in interdiction and when you are on interdiction your uniform is taken from you”, he added.

He dispelled rumors that the said Police Officer has been transferred maintaining that when an officer is interdicted he loses his uniform and he is refereed to PIPBS after which service enquiry is initiated against him.
He revealed that about 600 men and women in the police have been deployed to Akwatia to go soften the grounds ahead of a major deployment to ensure safety of the media and the Politicians.
On the attacks on Ridge Hospital Nurses, the IGP confirmed that eight (8) suspects have arrested and would be arranged before court.
On his part the GJA President thanked the IGP for his assuring words.
