President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Governor of Bank of Ghana and the First Deputy Governor of his unwillingness to cause them to print more money as was experienced under former Governor Ernest Addison.
The former Governor, under the instructions of Akufo Addo/Bawumia government printed several billions of cedis but President Mahama says such actions drive inflation hence counter-productive.
President Mahama made the statement when he swore in Governor of Bank of Ghana and the first Deputy Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiamah and Dr. Zacharia Mumuni respectively at the Jubilee House on Tuesday.

“Be rest assured that I will not ask you to print more money”, the President assured.
He also later took a swipe at the erstwhile Akufo Addo government over the banking sector clean up saying it was done with a narrowed focus ignoring the human consequences.
He emphasized that the appointment of Dr. Johnson Asiamah and his first Deputy is the beginning of resetting of Ghana’s economy adding that their appointment is crucial in ensuring proper currency regulation and stability.
President Mahama later commended the duo for their wealth of experience emphasizing that the financial crisis Ghana is currently faced with, required persons with strong leadership, demonstrable and proven track record like Dr. Johnson Asiamah and Dr. Zacharia Mumuni “to put the economy back on the path of growth”.
