FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN OF TESHIE NUNGUA DESALINATION PLANT
The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) wishes to inform the public, particularly residents and businesses within the eastern coastal corridor of Accra, that the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant has been temporarily shut down. This decision follows unresolved contractual issues and the prolonged lack of critical maintenance required to sustain efficient and safe operations.
The desalination plant has, over the years, served as a vital source of potable water to communities including Teshie, Nungua, Spintex, parts of Sakumono, La, and surrounding areas.
In the interim, GWL has put in place measures to minimize the impact of the shut down. These include:
• Rerouting water from alternative treatment plants
• Prioritizing essential service facilities such as hospitals, schools, and health centres
GWL remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and continuous water supply services to our cherish customers. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and assure the public that engagements are ongoing to expediate the resolution of the matter and restore normal operations.
Management of GWL assures the public, that regular updates on progress and timelines for restoration will be communicated through GWL Official website, Social media platforms, the Media, and Community engagement representatives
For assistance, enquiries or to report supply concerns, the public is entreated to contact the following numbers: 0800 40000 (Toll free on Vodafone lines), 0302 2218240, 0207385088, 0207385089, 0207385090 and via GWCL WhatsApp lines (0555123393, 0555155524)
