Minister for Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reiterated government’s commitment to prioritize the Prevention of cervical cancer in the country.

According to him this commitment, which is boldly captured in the Ghana Medical Trust Fund also known as the Mahama Care is a testament of how women are dear to the heart of government.

Hon. Akandoh made the statement during a short ceremony to unveil an ultra modern cervical cancer diagnostic machines at Korle-Bu, on Thursday, donated by the Telecel Foundation.

The Minister commended the Telecel Foundation and the Group CEO of Telecel for the support stressing that the machine would a go a long way to ensure the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer.

“We believe this is what true impact looks like, investing in people particularly women”, the Juaboso Member of Parliament emphasized.

The Minister later advised the public particularly women to take advantage of government’s free cervical cancer prevention vaccine thus human papillomavirus (HPV) being rolled out since government has committed huge investment into the vaccination.

Hon Akandoh dispelled the conspiracy theory being bandied around that the vaccine is a population controlled mechanism stressing that The initiative is to protect our women and target the young girls.

He therefore appealed to women and care givers to bring the girls for the HPV vaccination.

Earlier, the Health Minister visited the ongoing construction of the LA General Hospital to inspect and acquaint himself with the state of the project.

On his part, the Group CEO of Telecel, Mr. Moh Damush explained that connectivity transcends humanity hence the procurement of the cervical cancer diagnostic machines.

He said the machines will enable early detection and prevention of cervical diseases affecting women.

“As Telecel Foundation. We are focused on the wellbeing of the community in which we operate”, he noted.

The Group Telecel CEO emphasized that the donation would help improve quality health delivery as well as create jobs for the youth in line with their business objectives.

Mr. Mush later assured the public of their commitment to put in place a monitoring mechanism to ensure good maintenance and sustainability of the machines.

He revealed that the Foundation has launched free coding initiative to teach the youth on coding as part of their corporate social responsibilities (CSR).
