Pirates Attack Ghanaian Fishing Vessel; Kidnap 3 Crew Members

Pirates have attacked a Ghanaian registered ship, “MENGXIN 1” on Ghana waters and kidnapped 3 crew members who are all Chinese nationals.

A statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces said the attack took place on Thursday evening around 17:53 hours.

The statement explained that the seven (7).armed pirates boarded the ship and fired several shots prompting the crew members to run to safety.

“Following their departure, the crew came out of hiding to find the captain, chief mate, chief Enginee, all Chinese nationals missing, who are suspected of being kidnapped by the attackers. The crew had to sail closer to land before reporting the event because there was no mobile network coverage at sea”, the statement said.

The rest of the crew according to the statement is safe and the ship docked at Tema Fishing Harbour whilst investigation continues amid ECOWAS Multinational Matime Coordination Centre (MMCC).
