Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Jinapor has assured of a reliable energy supply in the country to ensure a sustainable and successful implementation of the 24hour economy policy.
He said energy resources such as gas plays a critical role in the sustenance of power supply in the country maintaining that government would rely on gas for energy sustainability.

Hon. Jinapor was speaking at the Meeting of Committee of West African Gas Pipeline Authority Ministers in Accra on Tuesday.
The Committee of Ministers which include that of Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana are meeting in Accra to reflect, dialogue and collaborate on issues around the West African gas pipe line.
The West African Gas Pipeline, according to the Energy Minister has been of immense benefit as it supplied gas to the 4 countries since it’s operation.
“When it got fractured in 2018, it really affected us”, Hon. Jinapor emphasized.

He revealed that Ghana spends about 1.2 billion dollars to import liquid fuel, arguing that Ghana’s dependence on Nigeria for gas saves the country about 60 percent of the aforementioned expenditure.
The Yapei Kusawgu Member of Parliament also disclosed that, African continent is blessed with gas resources of about 600 trillion cubic feet with Nigeria boasting of 200 trillion cubic feets of gas hence “we [Africans] have no business to be poor”.
He expressed government’s gratitude to the Nigerian government assuring of Ghana’s commitment to the expansion of the gas pipeline.

The Minister added that Ghana will continue to depend on the gas pipeline into foreseeable future by increasing payments for stable and uninterruptable energy power supply.
He also hinted of government’s preparedness to construct additional gas processing plant to ensure the delivery of gas and help reset the development trajectory of Ghana.
On her part, the Managing Director of West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO), Madam Michelle Burkett explained that WAGPCO provides a cheaper and more environmentally friendly energy source (natural gas) to Ghana, Benin, and Togo, diversifying their energy supply and improving their energy sectors.
She disclosed that WAPCO paid 7.2million dollars as income tax to the four states .
