Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has called on Ghanaian ambassadors and high commissioners to actively promote Ghana as a global brand in the countries where they will be stationed.

She made the appeal on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Accra during the maiden edition of the Orientation Conference for new envoys, which also marked the launch of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Ghanaian ambassadors. The five-day conference, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, is being held from September 1–5, 2025, under the theme: “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda.”

Addressing the newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare, urged them to ” be intentional and promote Ghana as a brand using national days through well-designed programmes that capture our culture, products, services, and investment opportunities.”

The Minister emphasized the role of economic diplomacy in achieving the country’s development objectives. “Now President Mahama is interested in economic diplomacy,” she noted, while urging the diplomatic staff to “talk among themselves to obtain best practices and gain innovative ideas to help expand Ghana economy and sustain Ghana as the viable and best investment gateway & destination.

Highlighting Ghana’s attractiveness as an investment hub, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare stated: “Ghana is one of Africa’s most promising investment destinations in 2025, blending political stability, robust economic growth, and abundant natural resources with proactive government reforms driven by His Excellency the President’s vision of resetting Ghana.”

She indicated that Ghana’s economy had shown notable progress this year. “The economy expanded by 5.3%, up from 4.9% in the same period of 2024, marking the highest first-quarter growth since 2020,” she told the envoys and members of the diplomatic community.

Touching on trade, the Minister highlighted the strategic advantage of Ghana hosting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in Accra.

“The AfCFTA represents the largest free trade area in the world by number of participating countries, bringing together 55 African nations with a combined population of over 1.4 billion people and a combined GDP exceeding USD 3.4 trillion.”

She added: “Ghana houses the AfCFTA Secretariat, indicating our commitment to increasing intra-African trade and liberating Africa economically, as championed by our first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,” emphasizing that “Ghana is among the first eight countries to commence trading under the Guided Trade Initiative facilitated by the AfCFTA Secretariat.”

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare also outlined several initiatives by the Ministry aimed at boosting economic growth and job creation, including Rapid Industrialization for Jobs, Agro-Processing for Economic Expansion and Jobs, and the Feed the Industry Programme and stressed that the Ministry is well positioned to facilitate trade at all levels adding that Ghana is open for business.
