The Minister made the Statement at the launch of the HPV Vaccine held by the Ghana Health Service in Accra on Wednesday (October 7, 2025).

“You would agree with me that anytime there is an introduction of new vaccine then conspiracy theory starts.
Let me assure you all that this HPV is safe”, Hon. Akandoh assured.

The Juaboso Member of Parliament revealed that the mortality rate for the HPV is very high adding that 3,000 cases are recorded every year.

He said it would cost one about gh2,000 to gh3,000 to get the treatment urging parents to bring their children aged between 10, 14 years and above to get vaccinated at no cost.

He stressed that “we must not be divided in the fight against the HPV; HPV is preventable and we are ready to fight it”.

The Health Minister later revealed that the Ministry is targeting 2.5 million girls for the vaccination stressing that the HPV Vaccines will be part of the routine vaccinations by the Ghana Health Service.

“We are not going to force anybody at your will but it is important to protect yourselves and the generations”, Hon. Akandoh emphasized.

HPV is one of the most common viruses affecting people and its associated with more than 99% of cases of cervical cancer.
