Consequently the respected NDC Chairman in the central region who paid a visit to the GJA leadership, showed leadership by apologizing to the media in a manner many Journalists including GJA Executives described as bold leadership and maturity.

In a brief remarks at a joint press conference after a closed-door meeting, Mr. Asiedu explained however that his intention was not to close the station down as was rumored but rather to address the issue with management of the station who incessantly attacked him for no apparent reason.

“I’m the leader of the NDC in the region[central region] and my interest is to promote my party.
In trying to promote the party you are likely to make some mistakes”, the Central Regional Chairman emphasized.

He acknowledged the decision of the GJA and commended the leadership for opening up to him on other ways of seeking remedy in the event of defamation by the media.

Mr. Asiedu who owns a radio station himself also assured the GJA of being a champion of press freedom whilst also expressing commitment to meet with management of Obatampa to resolve issues of revenue loss during the time of the shut down.

“No NDC will do anything to undermine press freedom. I am going to be a champion of press freedom
I also plead with the media to practice responsible journalism”, he emphasized.

The Central Regional Chairman, out of good faith, also announced the withdrawal of his gh10 million suit against the station.

On his part the GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour commended the Central Regional NDC Chairman for the bold leadership describing him as a matured and level headed politician.

He said the decision of Mr. Asiedu to cede to the demands of the GJA is indicative of the fact that the NDC Chairman believes in rule of law and democracy.

“We will continue to preach press freedom whilst also championing media responsibility”, he said.
