We Will Retool Metro Mass Transit to Operate Round the Clock-Affo-Toffey

Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey has given the assurance that her Ministry will retool the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to operate round the clock.

She said MMTLs’ operation best aligns with President Mahama’s reset agenda hence the need to retool it to play that pivotal role.

The Deputy Minister made the remarks during a working visit to the MMTL on Thursday.

“I assure you that the Ministry will provide the necessary support whether through bus acquisition or either resource essential for your operation”, the Deputy Minister assured.

The Jomoro MP emphasized that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama under the reset agenda is committed to the implementation of the 24hour economy policy across all sectors adding that this policy requires Metro Mass Transit Limited to operate round the clock services nationwide.

“The Ministry is ready to support your operation either for intra-city, intercity or rural urban routes”, she added.

The Deputy Minister later acknowledged the myriad of challenges of the company and expressed optimism that “Metro Mass Transit Limited will regain it’s reputation as the reliable pillar of our national transportation system”.

Earlier, the Managing Director of MMT, Mr. Kale Cesar Esq appealed to government to support them with new vehicles to enhance their operation as well as increase their revenue stream.

He revealed that about 115 buses are in operation whilst 180 buses have broken down maintaining that lack of buses is hindering the progress of the company.

“Challenges were staring at you at our compound, so muddy, however we are ready to reset the MMTl in line with President Mahama’s vision.

The Managing Director who said they expect about 620 fleet of vehicle bu next year to beef up the existing however expressed worry over the company’s container full of spare parts languinshing at the port for 2years.

Mr. Kale therefore appealed to government to intervene in clearing the container which he said was abandoned by his predecessor.

Some of the successes chalked in this eight months according to the Managing Director include 22%increase in revenue, salary increment for staff, enhanced surveillance and enhanced ticketing system.

The reset are reduction in current debt situation from over Gh130,000.00 to Gh123,000.00.
