The surge of flooding in Accra and other parts of Accra following torrential rainfalls often comes with its attendant spread of diseases such as cholera, malaria, and other waterborne or vector-borne conditions owing to overflowing drains, stagnant water, and contaminated drinking water supplies.
Against this background the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced its Emergency Preparedness to contain and curtail any outbreak.

Addressing a News Conference in Accra on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), as part of an ongoing SEASONAL MALARIA CHEMOPREVENTION (SMC ) interventions in parts of the country and the just ended School distribution of INSECTICIDE TREATED NETS(ITNs) the Director- General of the Service Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, described the situation as seasonal problem stressing that the GHS is fully prepared for any eventuality.
He further revealed that Greater Accra would be re-zoned in their emergency preparedness effort whilst a facility has been secured to treat persons suffering from the aforementioned diseases.
The Director General also allayed the fear of the citizenry on any outbreak in this rainy and flooding era stating that the Service is up to the task hence no cause for alarm.
Dr. Kaba later appealed to the media to eschew any form of misinformation and disinformation in this difficult times some people are going through emphasizing the need for the media to support the Service in engaging responsible disease reportage in order to prevent any panic and alarm.
“We also need your support so that we can educate the public”, he said.
“… We also know that a lot of people take the opportunity spread false information and propaganda. This is not the time. If you experience [the flooding] you will realize that this is not the time”.
