With Dagbon in mourning, Naa Preba Gundongu VoKpii Naa Honours late Yaa Naa on Behalf of the Women Dagbon.
Royal representative signs the Official Book of Condolence in Yendi, paying tribute to a leader remembered for peace, unity and service.
Naa Preba Gundongu VoKpii Naa, the principal liaison to government institutions, development partners, and external stakeholders on behalf of Her Royal Majesty, the Gundo Naa Samata Abudu, represented Her Royal Majesty and the women of the Dagbon Kingdom at the seventh-day prayers and signed the Official Book of Condolence in honour of the late Overlord, His Royal Majesty Ndan Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II
Her Royal Majesty Gundo Naa Samata Abudu, the highest female traditional authority and Paramount Queen mother of Dagbon announced His Majesty’s passing to the world. The Gundo Naa title is reserved for royal daughters and granddaughters of the Yaa Naa and occupies a unique and highly respected position within the Dagbon traditional system. She plays a role in maintaining royal stability, safeguarding tradition and contributing to matters concerning succession and the welfare of the kingdom.
Speaking after signing the Book of Condolence, Naa Preba Gundongu VoKpii Naa stated that the occasion provided an opportunity to represent Her Royal Majesty Gundo Naa and the women of Dagbon in paying their final respects to a King whose reign was distinguished by peace, unity, wisdom and dedicated service to the Kingdom.
She conveyed the heartfelt condolences of Her Royal Majesty and all the women of Dagbon to the Royal Family, Elders and the entire Kingdom. She further assured them of the unwavering support of the Gundo Naa and the women of Dagbon Kingdom throughout the funeral rites and all traditional responsibilities during this period of mourning.
Ndan Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II was enskinned as Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom on 18 January 2019 and was officially out doored on 25 January 2019. His reign, is widely remembered for strengthening peace and reconciliation, promoting unity among the people of Dagbon, preserving the rich customs, traditions and cultural heritage of the Kingdom. o fand for preserving the customs and traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom.
His passing on 11 July 2026 has left a profound void in Dagbon and beyond. His legacy of peace, dignity and selfless leadership will continue to inspire future generations.
