The Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno has declared war on illegal miners and Attackers of Momo Vendors.

He said the increasing rate of attacks on mobile Money(Momo) Vendors and the alarming rate of destruction of our environment by illegal miners pose existential threat to national security.

The IGP consequently charged on Regional commanders in 25 Police regions to up their game and clamp down on them.

COP Tetteh Yuhono gave the order at the maiden Conference of Regional Commanders at the Instance of the new IGP held at the Police Headquarters on Friday.

“Every commander must take steps to clampdown on illegal miners and Perpetrators of attacks on momo vendors”, the IGP urged.

“…Together we must work collectively to enhance the security to win back the trust of the people”.

The IGP who gave the assurance that his administration would see to the drastic reduction of crime in the country also urged Regional commanders to adopt innovative ways of fighting crime since Criminals always devise ways of eluding the system.

He said security is not seen but felt adding that the work of the Police is complete only when the citizenry is safe.

The IGP also charged the Regional Commanders to see the citizenry as partners in crime prevention and deal with them professionally.

The IGP later expressed his commitment to ensure that there is peace and security in the country particularly Bawku.

On the Conference, COP Yuhono said it is a platform for the Commanders to reflect on past efforts, exchange ideas and strategize for the furture.

The Minister for Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak who was the Keynote speaker, expressed government’s commitment to resource the Police logistically in order to create an enabling and peaceful environment for the citizenry and Investors.

He said government’s commitment for economic development coupled with the 24hour economy would require an intensified policing in order to realize the objective of the 24hour economy.

He emphasized that 24hour economy means security must be assured at all times, to inject confidence into the people.

“This system will serve as a fight against crime and protection of our installations”, the Interior Minister assured.

Hon. Muntaka later assured the IGP of government’s support to the Police in fighting crime in the country.
