GIA Opens Nominations for 2025  Elections

The Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GIA) is pleased to announce that nominations for the Association’s 2025 National and Regional Executive Elections officially open today, Friday, May 16, 2025, and will close on Friday, May 30, 2025.
This marks a key milestone in the democratic calendar of the Association, and the Committee urges all eligible members with the passion and competence to lead the Association at either the national or regional level to step forward and pick up nomination forms.
The Elections Committee is mandated to organise, conduct and supervise the GIA elections, with technical support from the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana will oversee the conduct of the elections on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Nomination Fees
National Elections o President -GHZ 5,000 o All other positions — GHC 3,000
Regional Elections o Chairperson — GHC 1,500 o All other positions — GHC 1,000
Completed nomination forms must be submitted with a recent bust-size photograph with a red background.
VETTING SCHEDULE
All nominated candidates will undergo a vetting process to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria.

National Candidates will be vetted in person at the Ghana International Press Centre from Tuesday, June 3 to Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Regional Candidates will be vetted virtually during the same period.
The results of the vetting will be published On Friday, June 6, 2025.

ADDITIONAL KEY DATES
Balloting for positions (National and Regional): Monday, June 9, 2025
Official campaign period: Starts after balloting on June 9 and ends on Saturday, June 28, 2025
Publication of Voters Register: By Friday, May 30, 2025
Issuance of Official Election Calendar: Monday, May 19, 2025
Election Day (National & Regional): Monday, June 30, 2025

The Elections Committee is currently finalising all necessary arrangements to ensure a credible, free, and transparent election process.
