He added that the Project is in two phases with phase one being Greater Accra Street Light Rehabilitation and Installation.

The Second he said is solar all in one installation targeting areas without grid infrastructure.

“So if we get to some areas where you dont have grid infrastructure, it means that the solar street light will be put in place”, the Deputy Minister emphasized.

The Gomoa West Member of Parliament further revealed that the two projects are being run concurrently however the solar street lights which he said are not in abundance would be able to cover all the districts in the country.

“And the Greater Accra rehabilitation is going to cover all Regional capital and ceremonial routes”, Gyan-Mensah noted.

“…Beyond that we are also supporting tje various Municipal and District Assemblies with some street lights so that they can also target areas that ours did not cover in Greater Accra”.

He revealed that Greater Accra has received a total of 3,000 street lights from the Ministry stressing that the gesture will be extended across the country .

The Deputy Minister admonished the beneficiary MMDCEs to mount surveillance on the street lights to prevent stealing of them.

For her part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo commended the Ministry of Energy and all its partner institutions for their collaboration and technical support, which she said have been critical in ensuring the realization of this project.

She said the street lighting project aligns perfectly with the President’s vision of a 24-hour economy, which is an economy that remains active, productive, and vibrant beyond daylight hours.

“When I assumed office as Regional Minister, I made a firm commitment that principal streets and major communities across the region would no longer remain in darkness.

Today, as we hand over the Rehabilitation and Installation of Street Lighting Systems Project, I am encouraged that this vision is taking shape”, the Regional Minister stressed.

The Shai OsuDoku Member of Parliament later commended the MMDCEs for embarking on street lighting initiative inspite of limited resources and urged them to safeguard the installations.
