Government Directs Finance Minister to Pay the Aggrieved Nurses starting November

Minister for Health Kwabema Mintah Akandoh has revealed that Cabinet has approved the payment of all the 6,500 Nurses who demonstrated a few weeks ago over their unpaid salary.

He explained that the directive has been necessitated by President Mahama’s passion for the Nurses and humanity.

The Minister made the announcement during a press conference in Accra on Monday.

“On the issue of the 6,500 Nurses, Cabinet has approved for all the 6,500 remaining Nurses to be paid “,Hon. Akandoh emphasized.

The Juaboso Member of Parliament also explained that government Inherited about 13,500 Nurses and midwives in 2024 and posted them without financial clearance.

“We had 2 options as government. So the first option was to allow all of them to go home until we get the clearance
The second option was to allow them to continue to work whilst we kook for money to pay them but we chose the latter”, the Minister revealed.

He explained that out of the 13, 500, the current government paid about 7,000 of them leaving only the 6,500.

He added that with the government’s approval for the 6,500 Nurses to be paid brings to rest the nurses salary brouhaha.

“These were the difficulties we were faced. I empathize with anybody who went into this difficulties but it’s important to take Ghanaians along”, the Minister stressed.

Hon. Akandoh also disclosed that the Ministry has succeeded in getting financial clearance for some 883 medical doctors who have finished their housemanship, some Pharmacists who have also finished their housemanship and 17,000 rotational nurses who would all begin receiving salaries in the coming months.
