Minister for Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has assured Operators of Mercy Ship-a hospital in a ship of his readiness to support them in order to make their mission in Ghana well accomplished.

He said a team made up of the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Fund and others have been assigned to liaise with management of Mercy Ship in meeting their demands.

The Juaboso Member of Parliament later emphasized that 43% of mortality in Ghana is attributed to Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), hence the coming of the International NGO was imperative for persons suffering from Cataract and other NCDs.
“There are people with Cataract who have not seen for years. After the surgery you will see the excitement on their faces that finally they can see”, Hon. Akandoh stressed.

He also assured the NGO of arranging a meeting with the President for the necessary action to be taken in respect of facilitating the processes and documentations.
On her part, the Founder of Mercy Ship, Dame Ann Gloag revealed that the ship has six operating rooms equipped with latest scanners, and Medical laboratory.
She added that all the people on the ship are volunteers whose mission is to serve the society.

She said they require about 620 volunteers a day to run the ship adding that the ship would be in Ghana for 12months.

We do a lot of plastic surgery and pediatrics. We have a Hope Centre which gives Care to patients after the surgery”, Dame Gloag revealed.

She later placed a request to the Minister which includes a docking area for the Mercy Ship, water and electricity supply and visa waver for the crew.
