Vice President, Prof. Naan Jana Opoku Agyeman has opened the African Political Parties Summit 2025 being held in Accra.
Speaking at the Summit, the Vice President charged Politcal Parties in Africa to seek the interest of their People at all times when they are in power.

She said the people “expect us not to focus on the next elections but the next generation” adding that the people need water electricity and jobs.
“When Politics is devoid of wellbeing is meaningless”, the Vice President emphasized.

She also appealed to Political Parries in the Continent not to see each other as enemies stressing that a true measure of democracy lies in peaceful elections and ability of rivals to be come partners for development.
“Democracy must be adversarial in the market of ideas”, she added.
According to Prof. Agyeman, the summit will address several issues including ‘how can ruling parties ensure peaceful elections in fragile situations’.

“…We will not agree on everything but if we can agree on the fundamental that Africa peace is non negotiable, then we would have taken a best step forward”.
The theme of the summit is From Politics and Prosperity: Strengthening Inter-Party Collaboration for Africa’s Development and Economic Transformation”.

The Summit saw several Politcal Party leaders including the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Fifi Kwetey who said leadership is not how to prevent others from having power but how to support government to deliver on its mandate.
