Government’s Ghc9.76 Billion Funding for NHIS is Unprecedented-Health Minister

Minister for Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that government has allocated about ghc9.76 billion to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), describing it as unprecedented.

The Minister made the disclosure at the Government Accountability Series held at the Flagstaff House on Friday.

“The National Health Indurance Authority revenue for 2025 has surged to an unprecedented ghc 9.76 billion compared to the previous capped budgetary allocation. Of ghc6.52 billion in 2024”, Hon. Akandoh revealed.

This, he said is to guarantee sustainable funding for the health sector adding that “thanks to the visionary decision to uncapped the National Health Insurance (NHIS) levy.

The Juaboso Member of Parliament also revealed that the current figure to the NHIA, is a massive increase of 3.26 billion describing it as a game changer adding that it enables the NHIS to expand health coverage, enhancing benefit a and Strengthening Ghana’s progress towards achieving universal health coverage.

“This is a government fulfilling its promise to prioritize then health of every citizen”, the Minister asserted.

Hon. Akandoh further emphasized that government has increased allocation for claims payment from 56.2 percent to 65 percent in 2025.

According to him government plans to increase it to 75 percent by 2026 adding “as the fund grows we would ensure that every cedi reaches front line services providing quality care to all Ghanaians”,

Hon. Akandoh who touched on all the sectors of his Ministry stressed that government’s investment in health infrastructure is progressing well aimed at ensuring a universal health coverage.
