The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has described illegal miners as terrorists against the state vowing to deal with frontally.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday, the Minister expressed deep worry over the galamsey menace and its attendant destruction of forests, environment and water bodies, emphasizing the urgent need to wipe out the illegal miners he described as enemies of the state.

“I wish to reiterate that the mandate given me by the President is clear: wipe out Galamsey through any lawful means necessary and I intend to do exactly that”, Hon. Armah Buah stressed.

According to him, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is committed to eradicating illegal mining adding however that given the complex and multifaceted nature of the galamsey the government urges all stakeholders—including traditional leaders, local assemblies, and civil society—to actively support these efforts to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources for present and future generations.

The MP for Ellembelle reiterated that President Mahama remains fully committed to his pledge to eradicate the illegal mining menace, and that “as sector Minister, I shall carry through this responsibility to the latter, no matter who is involved.

He later sounded a word of caution to Politicians who hide behind these illegal miners to desist from it since no overtures or calls from such “nation wreckers” shall be countenanced.

“I want to take the opportunity to sound a note of caution to those involved in this illegal mining enterprise, and their faceless collaborators hiding behind political colouration and influence, that any attempts to make calls and overtures to intercede for their notorious culprits, will not succeed.
