Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a groundbreaking victory in the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary rerun, marking the first time the NDC has captured the seat in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
Aubynn polled 34,090 votes to narrowly edge out the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes—a margin of just 209 votes.
“A win was expected because we worked so hard,” an elated Aubynn told journalists following the announcement.
This historic triumph breaks decades of NPP dominance in the constituency and follows a rerun triggered by a violent disruption during the initial December 2024 general elections. The original count was halted after chaos erupted at the collation centre, leaving results from 19 polling stations unverified.
The process was largely peaceful across most centres, but isolated violence was recorded in parts of the constituency
