The GJA President made the statement at the Launch of the 2023 NCSAM held at the Information Ministry in Accra on Sunday (September 3,2023).

“It is essential to emphasize that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and that everyone plays a role in fostering a cybersecurity culture. Cybersecurity affects everyone, including the media; therefore, individual accountability is essential for combating this threat.
This is why the GJA gives National Cyber Security Awareness Month so much importance”, Mr. Dwumfour emphasized.

He said cyberattacks on African businesses are escalating at an alarming rate, making cybersecurity a top priority for countries and companies.

He added that approximately 90 percent of African businesses lacked cybersecurity protocols, making them increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats such as hacking, phishing, and malware attacks.

He stated that digitization and digitalization are propelling the world’s rapid development adding however, that the complete impact of digitization cannot be realized if lives, businesses, and investments are not protected by corresponding data or digital protection measures.

In this regard, the GJA President commended the CSA for the initiative, saying it will help educate Ghanaians on the significance of digital security.

He later expressed the GJA’s unwavering commitment to support in the awareness creation.

“I applaud the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) for initiating the annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month for this purpose. We believe this initiative will educate Ghanaians on the significance of digital security.

“Last year, the media was actively involved in the event’s awareness-raising efforts. I want to reassure you that our participation and media support for this year’s Cyber Security Awareness Month will be even greater because media platforms are a primary target for hackers who wish to disseminate information to the general public”, he said.

The launch of this year’s NCSAM with a theme, “Promoting a Culture of Digital Safety,” saw the Director General of CSA Dr. Albert Antwi Boasiako and stakeholders such as Dr. Ken Ashigbey, John Awuah among others appealing to the public to be involved in the Awareness.
