He explained that peace is a fragile commodity which should not be toyed with hence Malian government will support any initiative geared towards peace sustainability within the Sahel.

Dr. Kone was speaking at the opening ceremony of a 2-Day Regional Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Forum for Peace in the Sahel held in Bamako, Mali by the SPI Secretariat under the auspices of Catholic Relief Services.

President of SPI Bishop Alexandre Bazie

“Do not Consider me as a Minister but a member of the SPI. I am here at this forum to advance nothing but peace.

If religious leaders have been able to put together such a great initiative, government of Mali has no option than to support it because we all need peace”, the Malian Minister for Culrure emphasized.

He added that “peace is needed in Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote Divoire Ghana and every where”,

Dr. Kone later expressed his commitment to support the resource Mobilization agenda by the SPI Secretariat and urged all Participants to be actively involved in the deliberations, having peace at the back of their mind.

Earlier, President of SPI Bishop Alexandre Bazie, Bishop of Burkina Faso, encouraged all Participants to view the forum as an opportunity to advance contributions and strategies that would ensure peace in the Sahel.

He highlighted the gains made so far since the inception of SPI urging other countries sub-regional countries to join and support the cause since “peace anywhere is everywhere and violence anywhere is everywhere”

As part of the Conference, media representatives from member countries will collaboratively frame the SPI Media Charter.

The Charter is envisioned as a guiding framework to promote conflict-sensitive reporting, ethical standards, and responsible communication devoid of misinformation and disinformation in support of peace, social cohesion, and democratic stability across the region.
