President John Mahama has said government will sanction any Shipping line that fails to do the due process and brings excavators in Ghana without permit.
He said the laws states that excavators can only be imported into the country after securing a permit.
According to him, in the past people import the excavators into the country before going for permit which he said is illegal.
President Mahama was speaking at an engagement with CSOs over galamsey menace at the Jubilee House on Friday.
“We shall sanction any Shipping line that brings excavators here without permit”, President Mahama warned.
President Mahama announced plans to engage Ghana Geological Authority to use technology to shoot seismic to trace gold.
He said this would prevent issues of haphazard digging in the name of prospecting.
On the state of emergency, President Mahama said the day the National Security tells him to declare it, he would do so without hesitation.
He however indicated that government still has the powers to deal with the menace.
