Chief Executive of Goldbod Sammy Gyamfi Esq has shot down calls for government to declare State of emergency explaining that state of emergency is declared only when government is out of control of a situation.

Speaking in an interview on Joy SMS on Friday, the hardworking Goldbod CEO emphasized that there was genuine commitment by government to fighting the illegal mining hence, the call is a misplaced one.

“Under our regime at least 900 pumps have been seized, you can see aggressive campaign to prosecute persons arrested for illegal mining and other related offenses” Mr. Gyamfi stressed.

“So these are the new things that are happening. And that is why I’m saying we are not there yet, this is not the ideal situation but we’ve made significant strides in terms of demonstrating genuine commitment to winning the fight”, he added.

According to him government has put in place a coordinated effort on the part of all security agencies to win the fight.

He however stressed that unlike the “Party needs money” mantra as witnessed by the erstwhile NPP government, NAIMOs is working without political interference adding that “ they are dealing with any persons found culpable no matter whose ox is gored”.

Mr. Gyamfi also dispelled allegations that Goldbod has been buying gold from unlicensed miners thereby worsening the menace and frustrating the national fight.

He explaimed that Goldbod was established 5-months ago so it can no be true that they are responsible for the galamsey.

“How can a 5-month old statutory corporation be responsible for an age-long galamsey problem. Galamsey has been with us for decade. Last year there was no goldbod but was saw unprecedented protests against galamsey. Nothing could be further from the truth”, Goldbod CEO emphasized.
