Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Vincent Ekow Assifuah has described the Removal of Gertrude Torkonoo as Chief Justice as unconscionable.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday (September 4 2025), Ekow Assifuah explained that the grounds for which Gertrude Torkonoo was removed was fraught with constitutional breaches.
According to him it is preposterous for a head of an arm of government to be removed on the basis that she transferred senior staff.
“To treat lawful transfer of Staff as grounds for removing CJ amounts to criminalizing lawful processes”, the Tafo Member of Parliament stressed.
He later emphasized that arguments by elements of the NDC that the President is only a conveyor belt “is false, dangerous and must be rejected outright”.
“He had discretion at multiple stages one of them is whether or not there is prima facie
The entire process was riddled with constitutional breaches”, he added.
