He explained that this policy forms part of a broader strategy to prioritize the development of basic education as well as motivating  teachers working in deprived areas.

The Deputy Minister made the announcement in Accra on Monday (March 2, 2026)  during a courtesy call paid to the Ministry by 52 students who distinguished themselves in the 2025 basic education examination.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak

“The President has a program that is going to reward teachers who take up teaching positions in the rural areas slightly more than their colleagues who do not

That is a policy that is going to allow teachers who take up Postings in rural communities  20% on top of their gross Salaries as part of motivation” Dr Apaak emphasised.

The Builsa South Member of Parliament further stressed that with the combination of accommodation acquisition and additional remuneration for teachers, government’s intention is to close the gap and reduce the situation to the barest minimum.

“This will make easier for teachers in rural underserved communities to take up Postings. So that students in Bunprugu, students in Fumbusi can also have the opportunity to excel like you have so that they can also come to Accra”, the Deputy Minister indicated.

He later congratulated the students and urged them to do more whilst staying away from bad companions.

He condemned violence that has characterised schools in recent times warning that any students caught engaging in violence will face the full rigours of the law, hence they must stay away from hooliganism.

“What you have achieved should not be the end but  the beginning of great things. Be motivated and stay away from bad companions”, Dr. Apaak advised the young achievers.
