Minister for Defense, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

The Defense Minister made this disclosure when he took his turn at the Government Accountability Series at Presidency on Monday.

“I’m excited to announce to you that as has been communicated by the Commander in chief a comprehensive enlistment and recruitment exercise will be undertaken with the view of increasing the manpower strength of the Ghana Armed Forces.

All together we are enlisting and recruiting twelve thousand (12,000) personnel within the next 3 and half years”, Dr. Boamah emphasized.

The Defense Minister also revealed that as part of GAF’s quest to build institutional capacity to support the ongoing industrialization and food security agenda, future enlistment exercise will target specific qualifications such as Agric Extension officers, Artisans Engineers, Biochemists among others.

He added that the Ministry of Defense seeks to support the GAF to enhance the capabilities of the recruitment and enlistment portal ahead of the August-September manpower enhancement drive.

Dr. Boamah later cautioned Prospective Applicants to be wary of potential scammers and report them to the law enforcement agencies.

“Let me sound a note of warning that the Ghana Armed Forces has not contracted or delegated any individual organizations or institutions to undertake any recruitment and enlistment on its behalf

“The public is therefore advised of scammers who pose as agents for the Ghana Armed Forces. You engage them at your own risk .Report them to lawful authority.

He emphasized that under President Mahama’s administration, joining the Armed Forces will be on merit and not money.
Forest Reserves Reclaimed
The Defence Minister praised the Ghana Armed Forces for leading efforts to reclaim several forest reserves that were previously out of reach for forest guards due to the activities of illegal miners.

“The recovery of several forest reserves, which our forest guards could not even venture into, was led by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he noted.
Navy’s Support in Operation Halt II
Dr Boamah also cited the role of the Ghana Navy in Operation Halt II, a joint operation aimed at halting illegal mining activities along the River Ankobra in the Western and Western North Regions.
