According to him, the John Mahama led government promised to reset Ghana and that these obnoxious taxes are some of the reasons for the resetting agenda.

The Finance Minister made this statement when presenting the 2025 Budget in Parliament on Tuesday.

“we will abolish the 10% withholding tax on winnings from lottery, otherwise known as the “Betting Tax”; ii we will abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (ELevy) of 1%; iii we will abolish the Emission Levy on industries and vehicles”, the Finance Minister emphasized.

He added “Mr. Speaker, we promised to reset Ghana. Abolishing the E-levy, betting tax and emissions tax otherwise known as ewusie tax is part of resetting Ghana”.

He also revealed that government will abolish the VAT on motor vehicle insurance policy; and abolish the 1.5% withholding tax on winning of unprocessed gold by small-scale miners.

He explained that “Mr. Speaker, the removal of these taxes will ease the burden on households and improve their disposable incomes. In addition, it will support business growth and improve tax compliance”.

Dr. Ato Forson also hinted of introduction of the road tolls.

He revealed that government will work with stakeholders to use technology driven solutions for the rolling of the roads.
