Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) has expressed worry over rising quackery within the sector.
The Council however said it is determined to ensure the traditional Medicine Practice meets the required standards.
This came to light during a forum with Representatives of Practitioner Associations and the Board Chairman and Registrar of the Council held in Accra last Friday.
The Registar of the Council. Dr. Yakubu Yusif stressed that the level of quackery in the system as regard psychic healers is at an unprecedented level Coupled led with poor standards.
“I was in the Volta region and a psychic healer was worried that some aincantations which should not be in the public domain, are now in the public domain because of tik tok.
So it is a concern we have to address”, Dr. Yussif emphasized.
For his part, the Board Chairman of the Council, Prof. Ato Duncan emphasized the need for a proper code of conduct among practitioners.
He assured that key interventions would be implemented to sanitize the system.
“We are going to have a nationwide registration audit to update our practitioners’ data base abs weed out unqualified operators”, Prof. Duncan assured.
He also indicated the Council’s commitment to organize refresher courses for Practitioners to imbibe into them the culture of standard adherence.
