The Minister for Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has called on management of the Ministry of Health and its agencies to align all plans, programmes, and implementation strategies with Government’s priority commitments.

He made this call during the ongoing sector-wide management retreat, which brings together leadership across the health sector to reflect on performance and chart a forward-looking path.

Addressing participants, the Minister stressed that effective delivery of Government policy requires institutions to move beyond planning into coordinated action.

In this regard, Hon. Akandoh underscored the need for health facilities to respond more directly to the needs of the public, particularly by expanding access to services.

As part of this drive, he directed all public teaching hospitals to urgently begin operating their Out-Patient Departments, laboratories, and diagnostic centres on a 24-hour basis, in line with the President’s 24-hour health service policy.

The Juaboso Member of Parliament also highlighted the importance of strengthening tertiary health training and service delivery across the regions. He therefore tasked the HeFRA and NHIA to expedite processes towards the full accreditation of the Sunyani Regional Hospital as a teaching hospital, noting that this will enhance clinical training, decongest existing teaching hospitals, and improve access to specialised care.

He emphasised that Government’s health sector priorities outline critical reforms and targeted interventions aimed at improving access, strengthening coordination, and enhancing service delivery nationwide.

Aligning institutional objectives, budgets, and operational plans with these commitments, he noted, is essential to meeting public expectations and accelerating sector-wide performance.

The Minister further observed that the two-day retreat provides a timely and strategic opportunity to take stock of progress, address implementation gaps, and reposition the Ministry and its agencies toward clearly defined targets for 2026 and beyond.

He concluded by encouraging participants to demonstrate renewed commitment, deepen inter-agency collaboration, and uphold accountability as they work collectively to advance Government’s health agenda and deliver improved outcomes for citizens.
