Police Rolls Out Automated Ticketing System “Traffitech GH” to Check Traffic Infractions and Compliance

The Police Service is introducing an automated traffic system to check traffic Infractions in the country.

The new Technology called Traffitech GH uses cameras and sensors to automatically take a picture or video of vehicles that flout road traffic laws and regulations such as speeding and of red light.

At a Stakeholders’ engagement held in Accra on Thursday by the Police in partnership with the National Road Safety Authority, the Director General of MTTD, COP, Mr. Francis Doku explained that the system is also aimed increasing deterrence and compliance with road traffic laws and regulations to enhance public safety.

He added that Traffitech -GH will deploy fixed mobile/in -vehicle and radar gun devices to capture amongst others speeding and jumping red light.

“Pictures and or videos recorded of the offence will be transmitted to a back office for validation and issuance of a notification by SMS to the vehicle owner for payment”, COP Doku emphasized.

The MTTD boss revealed that this system has been successfully implemented in the UK, Australia, Norway France and US among others adding that there was therefore the need for Ghanaians and stakeholders to support this wonderful initiative in order to ensure compliance and reduce infractions which he said lead to accidents.

For his part, the Director of Police Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent Alexander Obeng who gave a Presentation, on indiscipline on our roads, said this system has come in at time that it is needed most in dealing with traffic offences.

He revealed that even though the Police is transitioning from the manual way of enforcing the law, it has enabled the Police to prosecute about 2,199 traffic offenders.

He said out of that number, 1916 were found guilty with 11 persons being jailed whilst the police recorded an amount of gh1,431,725 as fines.
