Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama appealed to Ghanaians to handle the cedi with care considering the role it plays in our lives.
He stressed that the cedi has helped families to plan, businesses to grow and helped communities to support each other hence the need to protect The cedi.

The Governor made the statement at the opening of a 2-Day International Cedi@60 Conference in Accra on Tuesday under the auspices of the Bank of Ghana in collaboration with Currency Research (CR).
“The cedi has helped families to plan, businesses to grow and helped communities to support each other.
“let us protect and respect proper storage and responsible use of the cedi”, Dr. Asiama emphasized.

The Governor later paid a glowing tribute to the cedi saying for 60 years, it has remained central to policy making.
“For 60 years, the cedi has moved with our people, it has gone into markets, it has gone into small shops. The cedi has gone onto farms, it has gone into trotro stations”, the Governor emphasized.
To this end, Dr. Asiama stressed that the next 60 years would require the BoG and policy makers to ensure that the cedi, however it is assessed, continues to serve the aspirations of Ghanaians expressing his commitment to ensure jus that.
Dr. Asiamah also commended President Mahama for his support to the BoG which he said has resulted in the stabilization of the cedi.

For his part, President John Dramani Mahama who opened the Conference commended the Governor of Bank of Ghana and his management team for the stabilization of the cedi over the foreign currency.
He said this feat needs to be acknowledged and commended as it came as a result of hard work and economic prudence by the Bank of Ghana and the Finance Ministry.
The President later assured the Bank of Ghana of government’s commitment to make it independent given the critical role the Central Bank plays in the stabilization of the economy.
President Mahama described the cedi as indispensable as it symbolizes Ghana’s aspirations in the management of “our own affairs, regulating our markets and standing shoulder to shoulder with other global currencies.
“The cedi@60 has shaped the expectations of households and businesses. It has absorbed shocks, domestic, regional, and global, and symbolize the resilience of Ghana’s economy.

He pledged his unwavering support to the BoG and commended them for the Conference, which he said was very crucial determining the future of money.
“I wish to commend the Bank of Ghana and the Currency research team for uniting such a distinguished community to discuss important framework for currency management, monetary governance and digital finance”, President Mahama stressed.
The 2-Day conference will Provide a unique platform for experts and policy leaders to discuss latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the financial sector.
