As part of the initiative, the University has issued official identification cards to the cats, beginning with two well-known feline companions, Kwasi Joe and Kofi Sam, who reside within the Main Administration enclave.

The initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen humane animal–campus relations, support environmental health, and enhance the University’s unique cultural identity.

The presence of campus cats has long served a role in controlling pests, fostering a calm environment, and offering companionship to students and staff.

The new ID cards, issued under the designation “University Cat”, include the cats’ names, assigned campus location and care zone, and a symbolic validity period. The initiative also introduces a community-supported feeding and veterinary care schedule coordinated through the URO and designated staff volunteers.

The initiative will be rolled out in phases across identified cat zones, with the goal of ensuring regular health checks, designated feeding points, and educational campaigns on positive human-animal interaction
