Health Minister Retools Health Facilities with 50 Anesthetic Machines…Orders UGMC and Korle-Bu to Install theirs Immediately

Minister for Health Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on Wednesday presented three (3) Anesthetic machines to University of Ghana Medical School (UGMC) and eight (8) anesthetic machines to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital out of 50 Anesthetic machines to be deployed nationwide to health facilities.

The Minister who was accompanied by his Deputy Dr. Grace Ayensu first, made the presentation to management of UGMC and charged them to Install the machines immediately for public usage.

At the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Hon. Akandoh, who presented eight anesthetic machines explained that the presentations forms part of President Mahama’s commitment and broader effort by government to retool health facilities in the country.

He said health facilities can only function to their capacity when they have right equipment.

The Juaboso MPs acknowledged the gaps in health care delivery in the public health facilities, stressing that these machines would enhance the performance of these health facilities.

He later admonished the Hospital Authorities to improve upon public perception about the hospital and work towards winning the confidence of the public.

“I encourage you to improve upon your services. Our clients are the patients therefore their feedback is important. You must find a way of working on their feedback.

How patients are handled in hospital has become topical issue so the with greatest of respect lets treat our patients with respect and dignity”, Hon. Akandoh advised.

Earlier, the Minister presented the 3 machines Dr. Kwame Anim-Boamah the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC

The Minister seized the opportunity to appeal to Doctors and Nurses to accept postings anywhere since the rural areas need more of their services than the cities which he said are choke.

For his part, the Chief Executive of Korle-Bu, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam expressed gratitude thr Minister and appealed to him to prevail upon government to reinstate the post retirement Contract which has been canceled stressing that the Facilities need the experience and expertise of the senior Doctors to train the young Doctors.
