He assured the public of strengthened security measures across all entry points.

Rev. Wengam made these remarks during a working visit by the Governing Council to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

He disclosed that the Council will soon roll out a new initiative aimed at mobilising support from both the public and private sectors to improve the operational capacity of the Service.

The Chairman noted that government funding alone remains insufficient to meet GIS’s growing logistical and infrastructural needs.

Revenue generation, challenges
Welcoming the delegation, the Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (Dr) Noah Ahomka Yeboah, highlighted the vital role the Immigration Service plays in national revenue generation.
He also outlined key challenges facing the Service, including inadequate office space, limited staff accommodation, a shortage of vehicles and essential tools required for effective border management.

LStaff durbar
As part of the visit, a staff durbar was held to allow officers to articulate their concerns and engage directly with members of the Governing Council.

Addressing the gathering, the Comptroller-General of GIS, Mr. Samuel Basentale Amadu, condemned the recent killing of Immigration officers in parts of the country.

He called for calm and urged residents of conflict-prone communities to support the work of security agencies in restoring peace and stability.
