The Defence Press Corps (DPC) of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, to formally congratulate him on his assumption of office and to explore ways to deepen collaboration between the Ghana Army and the media.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, at the Army Headquarters in Accra, was aimed at strengthening civil-military relations, enhancing transparency, and promoting accurate and responsible reporting on defence and security matters.
The DPC delegation was led by its Dean, Mr. Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey of TV3, accompanied by the former Dean, Mr. Kofi Ampeah-Woode, and members Ms. Christiana Efua Nyarko (financial secretary) and Mr. Benjamin Niibi Martey of the Ghana News Agency.
Addressing the Chief of the Army Staff, Mr. Gold-Alorgbey commended Major General Gbetanu on his appointment and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to supporting the Ghana Army’s communication efforts through factual and professional reportage.

“We are here to congratulate you on your appointment as Chief of the Army Staff and to reaffirm our full support as members of the Defence Press Corps,” Mr. Gold-Alorgbey said.
“We also wish to request that your office considers embedding some members of the Corps in military conferences and activities to help provide credible coverage of the Army’s operations and engagements.”
He noted that deepening the partnership between the Army and the media would help bridge the information gap, counter misinformation, and enhance public understanding of the Ghana Army’s role in safeguarding national peace and stability.

The Dean later presented a plaque to Major General Gbetanu in recognition of his leadership and commitment to national service.
In his remarks, the Chief of the Army Staff expressed his gratitude to the delegation for the visit and their goodwill message. He assured the Corps of his openness to collaboration and underscored the importance of the media as a strategic partner in national security communication.
“The media is a very critical institution that cannot be overlooked in matters of security and defence,” Maj. Gen. Gbetanu said. “We are committed to working closely with you to ensure the public receives accurate and timely information about the Army’s activities within the framework of the Ghana Armed Forces.”

He commended the Defence Press Corps for its professionalism and pledged to sustain regular engagement with journalists covering the security and defence sectors.
