The Managing Director of State Transport Corporation(STC) Engineer Ali Hassan Ligbi has revealed that the STC in a current state, is fraught with myriad of challenges including broken down of buses.

He however expressed optimism that he will reset the company and turn the tides in line with President Mahama’s vision.

The Managing Director of State Transport Corporation(STC) Engineer Ali Hassan Ligbi and Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey

The Managing Director gave the assurance when the Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey paid a working visit to the Corporation on Friday (October 3, 2025).

“We have serious issues with our buses and our terminals no longer meet the requirements”, Mr. Hassan Ligbi revealed.

“It is not to say that it is not doable, it is doable and we intend to reset the place within shortest time possible”, he added.

He said currently they have 160 buses but only 50 are in operation underscoring then need to beef up the vehicles on order to operate efficiently and make the company viable.

He mentioned revenue leakages, lack of corporate governance at the STC, debt overhang and STC terminals that have been outsourced as some of the challenges of the Corporation.

“Our terminals are at prime areas but they are not fit for purpose” he indicated.

He therefore appealed to the Deputy Minister and government to come to the aid of the company with an ultimate goal to transform the place.

The Managing Director also stressed that they intend to purchase 540 buses by 2028 including electric vehicle to enhance the operation of STC.

On her part, the Deputy Minister, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey who said her visit is to learn at first hand the operation of the STC assured that the Ministry will help expand the fleet of the company to work round the clock in line with President Mahama’s 24hour economy initiative.

The Jomoro MP also expressed her commitment to support the Sector Minister in ensuring that STC delivers on their mandate.
