Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, will deliver this year’s anniversary lecture to commemorate the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills.
The lecture, part of activities commemorating the 13th anniversary of Professor Mills’ passing, will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22, at the Ohene Kofi Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The lecture will be on the theme “Atta Mills: A Case Study for the Fourth Republic”.
Conference
Addressing a news conference in Accra yesterday, the chairman of the institute, Alex Segbefia, said the Chief of Staff and seasoned public servant, Julius Debrah, will chair the event.
The 13th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture is part of a series of activities to commemorate the 13th anniversary of Prof. Mills’ passing.
Other events announced at the news conference, included a wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service on Thursday, July 24, this year at 9 a.m. at the Asomdwee Park, the final resting place of President Atta Mills.
In line with that, he said the memorial heritage had begun work on a comprehensive document about the life and works of Prof Mills.
The visual project, he said, was aimed at protecting the values and works of Prof. Mills to preserve his story for future generations.
He urged well-meaning Ghanaians to support the memorial heritage initiatives to help preserve the former President’s legacy.
Memorial heritage
The JEA Mills Memorial Heritage was launched in 2022 as an initiative to immortalise the persona and legacy of the late former President.
The initiative seeks to honour the legacy of Prof. Mills as one of Ghana’s most reputable Presidents.
It was put together by a group of academics, friends, family members and former government appointees who served under his presidency.
The initiative is led by Alex Segbefia as Chairman, with members including Samuel Atta Mills, Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo and Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.
