He argued that the Gh90million theft being bandied around as having stolen by Ato Essien is a hoax adding that he is being accused of a theft that did not occur.

Dr. Apea explained that Ato Essien who was neither the MD or the CEO of the bank was paid Finder’s fee or facilitator’s fee of gh27.5million for the liquidity support extended to capital Bank by Bank of Ghana.

“Do you know what that gh 90million? It is made up of Ato Essien’s gh27.5 million he earned legally plus 300% which was slapped on the 27.5million he legally earned making 62.5 million, making a total of gh90 million. There was no theft” he fumed.

According to him that liquidity support was a loan to the Bank, which loan Ato Essien was paid the Facilitator’s fee.

According to the Head of Missions, Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and Board Member, Commonwealth Human Rights Office, Africa, the Capital Bank was paying gh14.4million every month.

He expressed shock why all the accused persons including the MD who paid the gh27.5million to Mr. Essien would be acquitted leaving only Ato Essien who is languishing in jail in a wheel chair.

“Ato Essien is the only person languishing in jail. Currently in a wheel chair in a very bad health.
Even if you say he stile the gh27.5 Million and he made a mistake, get him to pay it back right, guess what henpaid it back plus an extra gh16million.
At the time he went to prison, he had paid 43.5million back. This could be anybody”, Dr. Apea recounted.

He expressed his commitment to fight this case to free Ato Essien revealing that he is going to launch a portal in September to receive petitions from people who have been wrongly persecuted and jailed.

He said he will secure Lawyers to work pro-bono tp defend them like they are defending Ato Essien.
