Education Minister Inaugurates NaSIA and NaCCA Governing Boards

Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has inaugurated the Governing Boards for the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) and the National Schools Inspection Authority (NaSIA).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony in Accra on Thursday, Hon. Iddrisu tasked NaCCA to incorporate foundational learning, national culture and values into the Curriculum stressing that it is the only way of the school kids can live with.

He said issues of corruption and dishonesty can be a thing of the past if the coming generation is introduced into foundational learning and values of the country.

“The best way is for the coming generation to have integrity and we can achieve that when we train them early enough”, Hon. Iddrisu.

The Tamale Central Member of Parliament later called for Standard based curriculum for basic schools whilst ensuring quality assurance in our tertiary education in Ghana.

Touching on NaSIA, the Minister expressed worry over lack of proper inspections and monitoring which he said has led to students deviance.

He said school inspections, Licensing and monitoring are pre-requisite to addressing discipline in schools.

“I am more particular about inspections and monitoring because there has been some worrying developments where students possess weapons”, Hon. Iddrisu said.

He emphasized that issues of phone cheating during exams and examiners aiding students during exams have become the norm adding however that strict enforcement of the laws would help nip the practice in the bud.

Hon. Iddrisu, later extended President Mahama’s congratulations to members of the boards and urged them to work in realizing the President’s vision.

On their part, the Chairman for the NaSIA and NaCCA Boards respectively Dr. Jacob Kor and Prof. Vincent Assanful expressed their commitment to work to promote quality education.

Whilst Dr. Kor assures of strengthening of Inspections to promote excellence, Prof. Assanful said AI and critical thinking would be encouraged in the curriculum.
