The Finance Minister disclosed this at a media briefing on Tuesday.

He argued that the erstwhile NPP government mismanaged the economy to the level which is difficult to bounce back stating that by the grace of God they have been able to stabilize the cedi against the dollar.

The Ejumako Enyan Essiam Member of Parliament therefore pleaded with Ghanaians to embrace the fuel Levy since it’s intended purpose is for the good of all, thus eradicating dumsor [power outage] from the system.

“Fuel was selling at 16.00 a litter but we’ve managed and brought it at 11.00 so you are saving 5.00. Out of the 5 cedis we are saying just give us 1 Ghc to be b used to solve the dumsor”, he emphasized.

He added “ You can be assured that government account for any pesewa from the levy”.

It would be recalled that Parliament approved the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introducing a GHS1 increase in the levy on petroleum products.
The measure is expected to generate an additional 5.7 billion Ghana Cedis in revenue to help reduce energy sector debts and support stable power suppl

According to Finance Minister , the energy sector debt currently stands at $3.1 billion and $3.7 billion dollars is required to clear the arrears fully.

He further stated that the government needs an additional $1.2 billion to procure fuel for thermal power generation for the year 2025
