President Mahama Holds First Cabinet Meeting…Expresses Confidence in the Team to Turn Things Around

President Mahama has held his maiden Cabinet Meeting since assuming office.

The Meeting which was held at the Jubilee House on Thursday saw the President expressing confidence in his cabinet ministers.

This was disclosed in Accra on Thursday by Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye.

He revealed that the 19-Member Cabinet, chaired by the President is constitutional mandate, which will meet regularly to discuss the policies of President Mahama’s government.

“Today’s session was to introduce cabinet and set out the ground rules”, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized.

He further revealed that Ministers of Interior and Defence took turns to address Cabinet on security issues where they described Ghana as safe country adding that Ghana has a strong security to counter any external threats.

Mr. Goosie Tanoh and Minister of Finance according to the Presidential Spokesperson were the next Cabinet members to brief Cabinet on 24hour economy and the economy respectively.

He said even though the government inherited a messed economy, the briefings by the Finance Minister “shows we are on course for a smooth take off”.

Hon. Kwakye Ofosu stressed that the President was highly confident that his Cabinet will help turn the economy around.

He also disclosed that in few days’ time President Mahama will address Parliament on current state of the economy, to be followed by the Economic Conference on 3-4 March where he said Industry Players and Experts will gather to deliberate on issues “that can get us out of the economic mess”.
