A group calling itself Concerned Group of Ghana is warning Nigerian Authorities Against the then xenophobic attacks against a Ghanaian Business-Jonah Capital based in River Park Estate-Abuja Nigeria.

On the 10th of July, 2026, there was a distressing press conference held by the National Association of Ghanaian Communities in Nigeria (NAGHACON) at River
Park Estate in Abuja, at which the association reported that the staff and assets of Jonah Capital — a Ghanaian company — had come under coordinated attack by state actors, following a purported revocation of the company’s Development Lease
Agreement and a forceful entry onto the company’s lands under the authority of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

The Nigerian media consequently, reported that armed policemen said to be attached to the Counter-Terrorism
Unit of the Nigeria Police Force took part in an operation at the company’s Gallery
Clubhouse, during which part of the facility’s entrance was excavated.

This action by the Nigerian authority according to the Concerned Group of Ghana (CGG) amounts to xenophobia against Ghanaian legitimate business and has condemned it forthwith.

These came to bear at a news conference addressed by the Convener of the Group, Mr. James Clarke.

The Group also accused the Nigeria Inspector-General of Police, Mr.
Kayode Egbetokun, of bias over his decision to sideline the report of the Police’s own Special Investigation
Panel.

“The Inspector-General’s office proceeded to charge the owners of Jonah
Capital with criminal offences of forgery and related matters, in Charge No. CR/402/25, contrary to the findings of that Special Investigation Panel”, the Group explained.

“…It took the intervention of the Attorney-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whom he said conducted an independent review and, by his office’s letter of 30th December 2025 (Ref: DPPA/REQ/224/25), made findings which we hold in certified true copy, and which include the following:

  1. That no prima facie case of forgery or related offences was established against the accused persons, namely Mr. Samuel Esson Jonah, Mr. Kojo Ansah Mensah, Mr.
    Victor Quainoo and Mr. Abu Arome;
  2. That the report of the Special Investigation Panel dated 28th March 2025 was valid, comprehensive and unbiased, and was accordingly affirmed;
  3. That the findings of the IGP Monitoring Unit were, in the Attorney-General’s words, highly misleading — disregarding the burden and standard of proof necessary to establish criminal liability, and inappropriately attempting to characterize a commercial disagreement over ownership, shareholding and contract as a criminal matter, contrary to Section 8(2) of Nigeria’s Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015;
  4. That the Police’s public declaration of other private individuals as the ‘owners’ and ‘managers’ of River Park Estate, without any judicial determination, was inappropriate and in excess of the lawful authority of the Police, who possess no jurisdiction to determine land ownership or adjudicate alleged breaches of contract; and
  5. That allegations of destruction of property, criminal intimidation and assault against staff, agents, customers and residents of River Park Estate remained uninvestigated — and the Nigeria Police Force was directed to investigate them and to maintain security and peaceful enjoyment for all residents of the estate”, the Group emphasized.

“Consequent upon those findings, the Attorney-General directed the termination of the criminal case, and on the 20th of January 2026, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory struck out the charges (Suit No. FCT/JD/HC/CR/402/2025). We hold the certified record of those proceedings as well”, the Group added.

The Group can not fathom why, inspite of the facts and reporte which exonerates the company of any wrong doing, this same company, Jonah Capital, and its flagship investment, River Park Estate, are now under renewed attack from a different arm of the same government — this time led by the FCT Minister.

The Convener said they are concerned that while the Minister claims Jonah Capital’s agreement has expired — a claim the company is challenging before international arbitration — his administration has seen fit to enter the company’s lands, including the Gallery Clubhouse, with armed men, to damage the company’s assets and put the lives of its staff at risk.

“Let us be clear: whether or not the agreement has expired is precisely the question now pending before arbitrators. No party that is confident of its case needs bulldozers and armed men to make its argument.
We are not unaware of the earlier expropriation of the company’s shares through unilateral alterations at the Corporate Affairs Commission under its Registrar General, Mr. Hussaini Magaji — alterations which Nigeria’s National Assembly had to order reversed, with the directors and shareholders reinstated. Nor are we unaware of the detention, last year, of an executive of the company by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the very same forgery claims that the Attorney-General has since found to be without foundation”, Mr. Clarke fumed.

The Group describes what is currently happening to Jonah Capital and it’s allied company as anti-regional integration and anti-free trade captured in the AFCTA conventions.

The Group, which has already petitioned the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana over the incident is therefore cautioning the Nigerian Authorities to put a stop to what they described as xenophobic attacks against a Ghanaian Company adding that such actions can trigger reprisal attacks on Nigerian businesses in Ghana such as UBA, Zenith Bank and Access Bank all of whom are doing excellent business without interference or harassment.

“Indeed, in June 2020, when a private developer demolished a building on the premises of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, the entire nation rose to condemn the act, the perpetrator was arrested and prosecuted, and the Government of Ghana undertook the reconstruction of the structure. That is how a good neighbor behaves. It is therefore painful that the only prominent Ghanaian company in Abuja has suffered such consistent attacks — even in respect of matters pending before courts and arbitrators — while we stand by, seemingly unconcerned”, the Group bemoaned.
