The Committee tasked by Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to investigate allegations of malpractices at Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH) and Korle-Bu has submitted its report to the Minister.

It would be recalled that the Fourth Estate published a story with headline Medical Kalabule 1 & 2 “exposing how desperation inside hospital wards becomes a business model citing
from inflated prescriptions to shadowy supplier arrangements, patients are pushed to pay for treatments and equipment they barely understand, sometimes for items they never see”.

Members of the Committee
Presenting the Report at a short ceremony in Accra on Monday March 16, 2026, the committee among other recommendations asked that Dr.Stephen Marboah be taken through disciplinary procedure for taking money from a client for an amputation procedure.
According to the Committee his action violates the GARH code of conduct and other codes of conduct.
The 7-Member Committee Chaired by Director Legal of MoH, AlhaIji Dr. Inua Yussif however said allegations of engagement of Axis Pharmacy and Neurosurgeons of GARH in medical Kalabule for the supply of implants, accessories and equipment and consumables could not be substantiated for lack of evidence.
On issue of Dr. Alhassan Andani, a junior doctor signing for Dr. Kaba, the Committee described that action as normal in the medical practice however Dr. Andani was not authorized by Dr. Kaba to sign on his behalf.
The Committee also recommended that MOH institute a mandatory orientation programmes on legal policy and ethical
issues for doctors as well as Consider a policy practice to ensure transparency and accountability at the Hospitals.
The Committee hower expressed disappointment that Fourth Estate declined to honor their invitation.
The Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, who received the report on behalf of the Minister assured the Committee and the public that the Minister shall act on it.
