Third Force Alliance, a Coalition of PNC, PPP and GUM has vehemently rejected the new CI sent to Parliament yby the Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensah.

A member of the Group, Kwadwo Gold Ahenfo said the new CI which makes Ghana card the only sole document for voting is preposterous and smacks of an attempt by Jean Mensa to help the NPP break the eight.

The Group made this known at a Press conference held in Accra on Thursday.

Mr. Ahenfo who is the General Secretary of the GUM Party also called on Ghanaians to treat with contempt a press conference by some members of Third Force Alliance declaring support for the EC’s new CI explaining that the 3 Parties were not consulted hence that declaration was flawed and does not represent the group.

Later the PNC National Youth Organizer, Mr. Awudu Ishak stressed that the group had observed the spirited attempt by the EC to railroad the C.I. through the process despite some of the objectionable provisions that have occasioned numerous calls by well-meaning Ghanaians and identifiable stakeholders on the EC to abandon the C.I.

He further stated that the new C.I. would lead to the disenfranchisement of millions of Ghanaians and thereby occasion unjustifiable voter suppression should it be allowed to stand in its current form.

“Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution guarantees every Ghanaian citizen who is eighteen years and above and of sound mind, the inalienable right to register and vote in public elections and referenda.
“This very Constitution further enjoins the EC in Article 45 to undertake programmes for the expansion of the registration of voters, and no to limit or restrict registration of voters as the EC is seeking to do through this C.I.” He said.

Mr. Ishak further stressed that they the minority parties will not sit down for the EC to pass a CI that is inimical to their fortunes.

The Group therefore called on the Minority in Parliament to reject the new CI in it’s entirety.

Present at the conference included the PNC Women’s Organizer Madam Hidaya Sungjun Ibrahim
