Ministers for Energy and Green Transition and Finance, Hon John Jinapor and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson have inaugurated a Technical Committee to oversee the construction of the Second gas processing plant in the country.
Speaking at the Inauguration ceremony in Accra on Monday, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Abu Jinapor expressed worry over lack of additional gas processing plants after the Atuabo plant, stressing the urgent need for another gas processing plant to complement the existing one.

He explained that the gas to powe system would help cut cost and improve efficiency in the energy sector.
The Yapei Kusawgu Member of Parliament revealed that the liquid fuel we consume annually exceeds $1billion which he maintained is unsustainable.
The Minister further argued that half of that money can be used to build the gas processing plant which he said will save us $500 million a year.
“That one billion dollars is not part of the tariff structure”, he explained.
He emphasized that , the plant, when completed would create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs stressing the urgent significance of the gas processing plant.
“It feels like this plant should have been done yesterday but be as it may we are determined to construct it”, Hon. Jinapor assured.

1.1 On his part, the Finance, Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stressed that the over 1 billion dollars used to buy light crude oil to power thermal plants in Ghana is two and half times of budget in running goods and services in the country.
He also called strongly for the coming into stream of the gas processing plant in order to cut down cost.
He later took a swipe at the erstwhile NPP administration for not generating any additional power to the one the first John Mahama administration left in 2016 adding that without Atubo Gjana would have been in big trouble.

“When we were leaving office we had enough power but nothing was done after we left office”, Dr. Forson bemoaned.
He later urged the Technical committee to expedite action on their work saying”it is so important for our country, it is so important for our welfare and our economy”.
The Technical Committee which is responsible for the day to the day operations is chaired by Deputy Minister Yusif Issaka Jajah and has one month within which to present report to the Steering Committee which is co-chaired by the two sector Ministers.
