Governor of Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Asiamah has disclosed that the Gjanacedi is now the best performing currency in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He said this has come about due to prudent and stringent monetary policies of the Bank.
Dr. Asiama made the statement at the launch of Cedi@60 celebrations in Accra on Tuesday under the theme”cedi@60: A Symbol of Sovereignty, Stability and Economic resilience”.

“According to the World Bank the Cedi is the Best performing currency in Sub-Saharan Africa”, Dr. Asiama stated
The Governor later acknowledged the evolution of the cedi in the past six decades to its present state, emphasizing that the cedi now has an enhanced security features that fight counterfeiting.
“The cedi is far more than just a currency It is a trusted value”, the Governor stressed.
He also revealed that the Cedi appreciated at 37% as at October adding that this singular performance led to single digit inflation of 9.4 percent as at September which he described as unprecedented.
Dr. Asiama later indicated that there would be Currency exhibitions and stakeholder engagements as part of the year-long celebrations.
