She stressed that one of the key commitments of the Government of H.E President John Dramani is to create jobs for the youth adding that the Regional Maritime University per its mandate of training manpower in the area of seafarers very much aligns with H.E the President’s Vision, hence the need to support the RMU.

The Deputy Minister gave the assurance during a working visit to RMU on Tuesday as part of a 7-Day working visit to agencies under the Ministry which begun today.

“This University is therefore strategically placed to play a key role in the 24-hour Economy by training maritime professionals and seafarers to boost the country’s human resource base, particularly in the maritime industry”, Hon Affo-Toffey emphasized.

The Jomoro Member of Parliament also stressed that the RMU can be tailored to support employment creation, both for seafarers and maritime professionals in onshore sectors adding that the institution could also align with Ghana’s blue economy agenda, harnessing the opportunities presented by our ocean resources to drive growth in the maritime industry.

The purpose of the visit she said is to familiarize with the University and appreciate their issues .

“Effective governance, they say, begins with listening and collaborating with those on the front lines of service delivery.

Therefore, today’s visit is an opportunity for me, as Deputy Minister for Transport to learn, engage with you directly, and to understand the challenges you experience in the delivery of your mandate as a Premier Maritime University here in Ghana”, Hon. Toffey explained.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr revealed that the University, in its 42 years of existence has produced several great professionals within the sub region adding that besides regular programs “we have tailored programs for all professionals”.

He also revealed that the University would launch the blue economy next month to align with government’s blue economy policy.

The Vice Chancellor later appealed to the Deputy to support the University to attain higher heights.

The Deputy Minister later proceeded to Tema Ship Yard, Railway Development Authority and ended at Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA), all of which she was taken through their mandates, progress and challenges
