The Juaboso Member of Parliament gave the commendation during the donation of medical equipment by WHO at the Ministry in Accra on Monday.

The Minister stressed the importance of health in the realization of President Mahama’s better Ghana agenda and promised to use the equipment for the purpose for which they were donated.

The items worth USD 36,700
include Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), 780 GeneXpert cartridges, 9,000 risk communication posters and 40 pull-up banners.

On his part, the WHO Director for Africa region, Prof. Mohammed Yakub Janabi commended government for demonstrating leadership in the fight against mpox.

“Ghana has demonstrated commendable leadership and resilience in managing the current Mpox outbreak. The activation of emergency coordination structures and the deployment of surveillance, laboratory, and case management strategies reflect the country’s approach to epidemic control”, Prof. Janabi emphasized.

“…Today, WHO is pleased to donate a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), 780 GeneXpert cartridges and 9,000 risk communication posters and 40 pull-up banners worth USD 36,700 to strengthen Ghana’s capacity to detect, respond to, and contain Mpox cases swiftly and safely”, he added.

The WHO Director of Africa later stressed that the PPEs will help protect frontline health workers and ensure safe case management and infection.

He added the GeneXpert machines will enhance diagnostic capacity, enabling rapid and accurate testing at decentralized levels.

“The risk communication materials will facilitate community engagement and behavioural change communication”, Prof Janabi said.
